The work examines disappearance, ambiguity, and truth construction through a fictional landscape shaped by political violence and erasure. Drawing on forensic science's role in recovering and identifying missing persons, it reflects on their uncertain existence and questions how truth is pieced together from fragments.
The project explores how technology, material aesthetics, and the emergence of 'articulate objects' continually reshape forensic methods and photography's role in defining truth. Serving as both memorial and investigation, the project contemplates the meticulous forensic process of constructing truth while challenging traditional photographic conventions.
It employs a layered visual approach, integrating found images, film negatives, aerial photographs, topographic maps, engravings, architectural drawings, AI-generated images, forensic reports, and found objects. Landscape emerges as a central motif, fragmented across materials typically used for surveillance and documentation.
While the search for missing persons in post-conflict Cyprus provides a personal starting point for the Cypriot born artist, the work draws from global conflicts, avoiding historical specificity to craft a universally relevant narrative.
Developed in Geneva, the project also reflects on Switzerland—a nation professing neutrality yet heavily armed, with mandatory conscription and nuclear shelters. The contrast between its idyllic landscape and extensive war preparedness highlights a broader theme: no place is truly immune to political violence.
By expanding forensic aesthetics within contemporary art, Point De Fuite positions photography as a complex, unstable medium navigating between fact and fiction. Incorporating AI, archival materials, and forensic methodologies, it examines how new technologies shape evidence and belief.
Beyond art, the project emphasizes the emotional and political dimensions of forensic investigations, challenging notions of political neutrality and security. It invites audiences to consider the roles of evidence, memory, and justice in forming collective histories—not only through what is visible but also through what remains unseen.
